Planting Celebration

The Planting Celebration was a great success! Thanks to everyone who helped plant.
Learning how to plant the seeds

It was so great to see the kids working together with the older ones helping the younger ones.

And in spite of a rainy forcast... we had a sunny day!

Getting the Garden Ready

The garden is almost ready! We tilled it on Wednesday and set out the beds. We even planted some peas.

Amy using the rototiller. We shared the rental with our neighbor garden from the Sarah Holbrook Center & Barnes School. That's Helaine in the background.

If you look carefully you can see the strings that make the Jewish Star shape. The strings will be removed once the beds are all done. The students in the Jewish Garden elective planned the layout of the garden and decided what we will plant. Once we started to lay out the beds we realized we needed to shift some of the plans for particular beds around because some of the areas were smaller than we thought they would be.

We planted one of the beds in peas. Peas are a cool season crop, so it was important to get them in before our planting celebration on May 20. It will be nice to have a little green already up for the celebration.
